Okay here is a little background. I have been playing golf on and off for a long time. But over the last 5 years or so, I became serious about my play. I was stuck at about 15 handicap for sometime. So I decided to take each aspect of my game and get better, without any grand illusions or delusions. I just wanted to play better golf. So in my usual manner, doing things backwards, I started with rebuilding my swing from scratch. Took some lessons and improved. Practiced, practiced, practiced. Then moved to my irons and their respective distances. I did get better. More practice with short game and putting. And I saw my game get down to low to mid 80's, very respectable golf. But my driving personality wouldn't allow me to stop there. More lessons, more practice, however in many instances I didn't see the results on the course I was expecting, even though I was improving.
All the hard work started to produce results in late 2010 and I saw my handicap get to single digit, around an 8. And again my self driven trait won't allow me to settle. So I decided I was going to give golf everything I have and see what happens. So my first step was to get a golf/swing/mentor coach. And I found a great one in Terry Govern, from Swan Lake Resort. A bunch of us golf nuts from Chicago plan our annual "golf" outing the first weekend in May and I decided I would take some serious proper golf lessons. Golf is in quotes because when that many guys get together so much more goes on the just golf. That in itself is a blog posting.
So I went early, before the other guys arrived, and 6 hours of lessons later I was more confused then when I started. Some funny stories about the aftermath to come. But somewhat expected, because you don't know what you don't know. And Terry started teaching me what I don't know. I he taught me just how much work I was in store for, if I wanted to reach my goal. I knew I had a couple of years before I could even be eligible for the Champions Tour, you have to be 50. So after my sessions with Terry in May 2011. I really went to work, and the only way to eat this elephant was one bite at a time.

About this blog
This blog will document my journey of playing on the Golf Channel AmTour. The highs and lows, trials and tribulations, the heartache and achievements. The AmTour is open to all levels of amateurs. This blog is also an attempt to inspire others to chase THEIR dreams no matter their age.
So with a lot of practice and some good fortune you just might see me on tv during the upcoming golf season.
"Yeah runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream"
Lyrics from Tom Petty's Running Down a Dream.
Quote from A League of Their Own
Jimmy Dugan: ... sneaking out like this, quitting, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Baseball is what gets inside you. It's what lights you up, you can't deny that.
Dottie Hinson: It just got too hard.
Jimmy Dugan: It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!
