About this blog

This blog will document my journey of playing on the Golf Channel AmTour. The highs and lows, trials and tribulations, the heartache and achievements. The AmTour is open to all levels of amateurs. This blog is also an attempt to inspire others to chase THEIR dreams no matter their age.
So with a lot of practice and some good fortune you just might see me on tv during the upcoming golf season.

"Yeah runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream"

Lyrics from Tom Petty's Running Down a Dream.

Quote from A League of Their Own
Jimmy Dugan: ... sneaking out like this, quitting, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Baseball is what gets inside you. It's what lights you up, you can't deny that.
Dottie Hinson: It just got too hard.
Jimmy Dugan: It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

The Follow-Through Drill

The follow-through drill is terrific drill that many golfers use in order to drive the ball longer and straighter. Line up as you would on any drive, then swing with normal force while making sure that your body faces the ball in the air during the follow-through. Your hands should finish up around your head with your back foot up so you can tap it on the way down to ensure the completion of optimal weight transfer. You can practice this drill with or without a ball as long as you understand the drill and execute it correctly.

The Preset Backswing Drill

The preset backswing drill is another ideal drill to practice in order to be able to drive the ball longer and straighter. It allows your swing to be controlled, which sends the ball in the direct vicinity of the intended target. Cock your wrists so the club shaft is completely horizontal and in line with the ball. Next, turn your upper body with your waist until your left shoulder (right shoulder for left-handed players) is under your chin. Now you should be in the optimal position for a completely controlled back swing. At the top of your backswing, begin your downswing as you would normally. However, you will definitely notice the increased club head speed and control on the drive attempt.

Angle Positioning Drill

Use the angle positioning drill. Draw a line toward the ball with chalk or a thin string. Then place two separate tees at one o'clock and seven o'clock positions on the course or designated practice area. Take your stance while lining up with the ball along the target area, and practice your swing direction. Make sure that your backswing is toward the seven o'clock tee and the point of contact is at the one o'clock tee. Once you are entering your follow-through, your head should be facing the ball as it is in the air approaching the green. After practicing this drill a few times, you'll be driving the ball straighter and longer in no time.
