About this blog

This blog will document my journey of playing on the Golf Channel AmTour. The highs and lows, trials and tribulations, the heartache and achievements. The AmTour is open to all levels of amateurs. This blog is also an attempt to inspire others to chase THEIR dreams no matter their age.
So with a lot of practice and some good fortune you just might see me on tv during the upcoming golf season.

"Yeah runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream"

Lyrics from Tom Petty's Running Down a Dream.

Quote from A League of Their Own
Jimmy Dugan: ... sneaking out like this, quitting, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Baseball is what gets inside you. It's what lights you up, you can't deny that.
Dottie Hinson: It just got too hard.
Jimmy Dugan: It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

Playing Hybrids

This day in age EVERYONE should NOT be playing a 3 iron and most amatuers should replace their 3, 4, and 5 iron with hybrids.  This long irons are just plain hard to hit, yes even for pros.  Kenny Perry in the link below doesn't play a 3 iron.

Say Goodbye to Your 3-iron

These hybrids are designed to be easier to hit and ball travels longer then your conventional long irongs.  With their larger heads and larger sweet spot, it just makes sense, dont leg your ego get in the way.  Additionally look at it from a pure strategic golf sense.  Say you are 180+ yards to the green.  First of all the chances you will hit the green with a 5 iron or higher at that distance is small.  Chances are you will be short and to the right because you tried to muster a 5 iron you only hit 175+ to start with.  With a 5 hybrid, the shaft is a bit longer, giving you a wider arc and more head spead = more distance.  Now you can swing easier and make better contact and chances increase greatly you will hit the green or at least be on target.  Statistically you are better off with 2 or 3 hybrids then you are long irons and hitting them way off target.

My bag setup suggestion would be:
Driver
3Wood or 5Wood
22* hybrid (4 iron)
25* hybrid (5 iron)
6 - PW irons
Gap Wedge (50* or 52*)
Sand Wedge (54* or 56*)
Lob Wedge (58* or 60* or 62* or 64*)
High bounce Sand Wedge (for fluffy sand and/or deep rough around the greens)
the bounce will effectively prevent the club from digging and taking too much turf
Putter

Of course you can only have 14 clubs so pick and choose which setup best suits the course conditions.
