About this blog

This blog will document my journey of playing on the Golf Channel AmTour. The highs and lows, trials and tribulations, the heartache and achievements. The AmTour is open to all levels of amateurs. This blog is also an attempt to inspire others to chase THEIR dreams no matter their age.
So with a lot of practice and some good fortune you just might see me on tv during the upcoming golf season.

"Yeah runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream"

Lyrics from Tom Petty's Running Down a Dream.

Quote from A League of Their Own
Jimmy Dugan: ... sneaking out like this, quitting, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Baseball is what gets inside you. It's what lights you up, you can't deny that.
Dottie Hinson: It just got too hard.
Jimmy Dugan: It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

Trip to see Instructor Part I

I was approaching this big weekend to work with my golf instructor, Terry Govern, in Orlando with nervous energy.  If you have been following this blog, you know I have been nursing a leg injury.  So, I knew going into the weekend I would be rusty, and the last thing I wanted was to waste mine and Terry's time.

The purpose of the trip is two fold, an early season tune up and to recon the course which will hold my first two day major tournament in April.
My agenda for the weekend also included learning how to map greens and fine tuning my swing.  Over the past few months, I had came to the realization my length will be a problem and is cause of concern.  I know I have to gain about 5 - 10 MPH head speed which on average equates to 15 - 30 yards increase.  But I wasnt sure how I was going to get there.  And honestly I felt I had plateaued and stuck in a hole.

The awesome instructor Terry is, "fixed" me in about 1 hour.  He had a new iPhone swing analyzer app and I was his guinea pig.  I took a few swings and we saw immediately where I was loosing power and what needed to change.  Simply I was releasing the club too early and loosing massive speed and power.  This was due in large part by me bring the club around my body too much.  So Terry and I worked on where the club needs to be and what that felt like.  Being a feel player it is important for me to know what "it feels like" which allows me to self correct on course.  And finally during dinner, we talked about had position and what that looked and felt like.  So after much discussion and getting my hands in "the right" impact position I felt ready to apply what I have learned.  I cannt thank Terry enough for his guidance, instruction, and encouragement.  I have some new found excitement and cannt wait to get after it.  I feel like I am unstuck and ready to reach the next level.
