About this blog

This blog will document my journey of playing on the Golf Channel AmTour. The highs and lows, trials and tribulations, the heartache and achievements. The AmTour is open to all levels of amateurs. This blog is also an attempt to inspire others to chase THEIR dreams no matter their age.
So with a lot of practice and some good fortune you just might see me on tv during the upcoming golf season.

"Yeah runnin' down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads
Runnin' down a dream"

Lyrics from Tom Petty's Running Down a Dream.

Quote from A League of Their Own
Jimmy Dugan: ... sneaking out like this, quitting, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Baseball is what gets inside you. It's what lights you up, you can't deny that.
Dottie Hinson: It just got too hard.
Jimmy Dugan: It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

Tip From Paul Azinger

I had not practiced much before this upcoming tournament and it had me worried.  I have been following Hank Haney's suggestion and accepted his challenge.  100 swings per day.  I considered a new year's resolution.  Started Monday January 6.  Honestly I have not done it every day this week, however i only missed one day.
Additionally, I caught Golf Academy with Paul Azinger and pickup a single tip that turned out to make all the difference.  The major in Tampa my ball striking was inconsistent and I found during each round the middle 6 holes is where I struggled with my ball striking.  Looking for consistency is a golfers leprechaun.  The tip from Paul Azinger was simple.  Keep your arms connect and in front of you.  Many golfers have heard this many times, I am no different.  Have you ever done the towel drip.  Holding the golf towel under each armpit as you swing.  We all have.
But what in the hell does that really mean?  Well you will need to watch the episode to get the full effect.  I will attempt to summarize.  Quite simply when you let your right arm get away from your right side, YOU WILL SLICE the ball.  Why?  Because you will come across at the top and cut across the ball.  It is a fact.  So what Mr. Azinger showed; take your normal backswing and stop and the top.  And while maintaining that position turn your body back to address and your arms should and MUST be in front of you.  The follow through can be tested the same way.

So keep your right elbow pointed to the ground during the backswing and keep the left elbow pointed to the ground at your finish.

SO I tried it during my practice session today.  Major revelation!!! I havent stuck the ball that well in a very long time.  I worked my way through bag and short irons, mid irons, long irons, and yes even my hybrid, (which I have a bad tendacy of leaking to the right), virtually every ball struck was a thing of beauty.  Thanks Mr. Azinger.
